Euchre uses a 24-card standard deck. The game is played in teams of two.

When a player names a suit as trump, they commit their team to winning most of the tricks. Winning three or four tricks scores one point, while taking all five earns two. If the team fails to win three tricks, they are “euchred” and the opposing team receives two points.

A player with a strong hand can “go alone,” meaning they attempt to win all tricks without their partner. The partner sits out, and if the lone player wins all five tricks, the team scores four points. Taking only three or four tricks while playing alone scores one point. Getting euchred while alone still awards the other team two points.

A core Euchre rule is that you’re never forced to play a trump card (unless trump is led), but you must follow suit whenever possible.
