The Kiwanis Club of New Kingston (KCNK) presents an exciting way for kids aged 4 to 9 to learn spelling with the KCNK Little Bee Game. Sponsored by Grace Kennedy Money Services (GKMS) and Western Union (WU), this app is perfect for young learners and can be enjoyed offline anywhere.
The app features three engaging modes, each with 10 levels of increasing difficulty. Each level includes over 15 words to master, ensuring a comprehensive learning experience.
In Settings, students can enter their personal details like name, age, parish, and school. They can then choose from Learning Mode 1, Learning Mode 2, or Competition Mode.
Learning Mode 1 helps children learn by tapping each letter of a word from left to right. The app pronounces the letter, allowing kids to repeat it. If a mistake is made, it can be easily corrected. Tapping the little bee icon lets students hear the word again. To progress, they must spell each word correctly, completing all words to finish a level, and can retry any level as needed.
Learning Mode 2 challenges students to unscramble jumbled letters to form the correct word. Like Mode 1, mistakes can be undone, and the word can be replayed by tapping the bee. Correct spelling is required to move forward and complete each level.
Competition Mode ups the ante by adding extra letters to the jumble. Students are timed on each word, aiming to complete levels quickly. Ten random words are selected per level, and times are added to a total score. The leaderboard on the main page shows performance times for each level.
Players can reset the game from the Settings page. It's important to wait for a letter to be fully called before selecting the next one. Students and parents can capture screenshots of the leaderboard to share with teachers.
