Atomfall Gameplay Revealed Before March Launch

Summary

  • Atomfall by Rebellion is a first-person survival game set in an alternate 1960s England post-nuclear disaster.
  • The gameplay trailer reveals exploration of quarantine zones, crafting, battling robots, cultists, and upgrading weapons.
  • Players can expect a mix of melee and ranged combat, resource scavenging, and unlockable skills in the game.

New gameplay details have emerged through a new trailer for the first-person survival game from Rebellion Developments, Atomfall. Known for their acclaimed Sniper Elite franchise, which gained significant traction with Sniper Elite V2 in 2012, Rebellion is venturing into new territory with Atomfall. This marks their first full-on survival game, a departure from their usual third-person action and real-time strategy titles.

Atomfall was first showcased in June during Xbox's highly praised Summer Game Fest, where it might have been somewhat overshadowed by major announcements like Gears of War: E-Day, Doom: The Dark Ages, and the gameplay reveal of Perfect Dark. Despite the competition, Atomfall captured the attention of Xbox gamers, especially with the promise of a day-one release on Game Pass. Since its reveal, there has been significant interest and anticipation for more details about the game.

With less than three months until its March 27 release, Rebellion Developments has released a seven-minute narrated gameplay trailer. The trailer sets the scene for Atomfall, taking place in an alternate 1960s England devastated by a nuclear disaster. The setting will feel familiar to fans of Fallout and STALKER, as players will explore quarantine zones, small villages, and research bunkers, scavenging resources to survive against robots, cultists, and hazardous environments.

Atomfall Receives Big New Gameplay Trailer

The trailer showcases some of the weapons available in Atomfall. The selection includes a cricket bat for melee, a revolver, a shotgun, and a bolt-action rifle. While the initial armament selection appears basic, the trailer highlights that these weapons can be upgraded, and more types of guns may be discovered in the open world. Players will also have the ability to craft healing items and combat tools such as Molotov cocktails and sticky bombs using scavenged resources. Additionally, Atomfall introduces a metal detector to help players locate caches of supplies and crafting items within the quarantine zone. The trailer also mentions training manuals and unlockable skills, categorized into melee, ranged combat, survival, and conditioning.

Atomfall is set to launch on March 27 across Xbox, PlayStation, and PC, and will be available on Xbox Game Pass from day one. The trailer concludes with a mention of an upcoming deep dive video, so interested gamers should keep an eye on Atomfall and Rebellion's social media for more updates.
