I've lost track of how many times Cassette Beasts was postponed, but it's finally launched globally on Android. Developed by Bytten Studio and published by Raw Fury, the game arrives on mobile two years after its PC debut.
Now that it's here, let me give you a quick overview. You've probably heard of cassettes—those old-fashioned things your parents used for listening to music. If not, a quick Google search will fill you in.
You wake up stranded on a peculiar island called New Wirral, where nothing seems to belong in this century—or even this world. Monsters run rampant, people casually transform into creatures to fight them, and everything operates using cassette tapes.
Your mission in Cassette Beasts is to survive on the island and find a way back home. To do so, you'll rely on your cassette player to record monsters and then play back the tapes to become them.
Forge strong bonds with locals in Harbourtown, and you can even fuse your monster forms with a partner’s to create incredibly cool hybrid creatures. Because any two monsters can fuse, the combinations are virtually endless.
New Wirral is packed with dungeons, puzzles, and hidden areas only accessible once you’ve unlocked the right monster abilities. Glide over cliffs, swim through mysterious waters, scale sheer walls, and maybe even turn magnetic.
The combat is turn-based and features an elemental chemistry system. Combine the right types to weaken enemies, boost your team, or even change an opponent's elemental type during the fight.
The game supports Bluetooth controllers—though you may run into minor issues—and is free to play, so you can download it now from the Google Play Store.
