The Shape, also known as Michael Myers, was the first licensed Killer introduced to Dead by Daylight. This iconic horror character is known for his relentless pursuit and ability to stalk Survivors, increasing his ferocity before striking. Playing as The Shape can be a thrilling yet challenging experience, especially given his recent buffs in Patch 8.4.0, which have enhanced his gameplay significantly. This guide aims to provide players with the best builds and add-ons to maximize their effectiveness with this sinister Killer.

Updated on January 13, 2025, by Siddarth Narasimman: Despite being considered one of the weaker Killers, Michael Myers remains a favorite among new players. The buffs from Patch 8.4.0 have made him a more viable choice, making it the perfect time to explore the best strategies for this iconic horror figure.

The Shape: Best Non-Teachable Build (2025)

Playing The Shape without access to other Killers' perks can be challenging, but with the right build, you can still dominate the trial. This build leverages Save the Best for Last to reduce chase times, while Sloppy Butcher slows down the game passively. Bitter Murmur and Hex: No One Escapes Death ensure you can finish off any remaining Survivors in the endgame without needing to stalk them extensively.

  • Save the Best for Last (The Shape) – Earn tokens by hitting non-Obsession Survivors, up to eight tokens. Each token reduces the cooldown of basic attacks by 4%, up to a maximum of 32%. Hitting the Obsession removes two tokens.
  • Hex: No One Escapes Death (General Perk) – Once the last generator is completed, all Survivors become Exposed and gain a 4% Haste effect until the Hex Totem is cleansed.
  • Bitter Murmur (General Perk) – Reveals the auras of Survivors near completed generators for 5 seconds. After the last generator is completed, all Survivors' auras are revealed for 10 seconds.
  • Sloppy Butcher (General Perk) – Inflicts Mangled and Hemorrhage status effects on Survivors, slowing healing by 25% and causing healing regression if left unfinished.

The Shape: Best Build (2025)

This build focuses on slowing down generator progress and enhancing early game performance, crucial for The Shape due to his limited map mobility. By focusing on a cluster of generators, using Scourge Hook: Pain Resonance and Deadlock, you can effectively disrupt Survivors' progress. Lethal Pursuer helps you locate Survivors quickly for early stalking, while Coup de Grâce improves your ability to navigate loops.

  • Lethal Pursuer (The Nemesis) – Reveals the auras of all Survivors for nine seconds at the start of the match, with an additional two seconds on all aura-reading effects.
  • Scourge Hook: Pain Resonance (The Artist) – Starts with four tokens; hooking different Survivors on Scourge Hooks removes one token and causes the generator with the most progress to lose 25% of its progress.
  • Deadlock (The Cenobite) – Blocks the generator with the most progress for 25 seconds after any generator is completed, revealing it with a white aura.
  • Coup de Grâce (The Twins) – Gains two tokens per completed generator, allowing you to increase the lunge attack distance by 80% per token.

The Shape: Best Add-Ons (2025)

Memorial Flower

While not the most spectacular, the Memorial Flower at common rarity offers a valuable 11% increase to The Shape's stalking rate, enhancing his ability to build up power quickly.

Dead Rabbit

Although it increases the Terror Radius in Evil Within III, the Dead Rabbit's 25% decrease in Terror Radius during Evil Within II is incredibly useful. Pair it with perks like Monitor and Abuse to manage your Terror Radius effectively.

J. Myers Memorial

This add-on provides a significant 25% bonus to stalking gain rate, making it an excellent choice when combined with the Tombstone Piece to mitigate the longer time needed to reach Evil Within III.

Hair Bow

Enhancing The Shape's threat level during Evil Within III, the Hair Bow is a great choice. When paired with the J. Myers Memorial, it allows for consistent pressure across the map with multiple Evil Within III activations.

Tombstone Piece

Arguably the strongest add-on for The Shape, the Tombstone Piece enables immediate kills upon reaching Evil Within III, regardless of the Survivor's hook state. This add-on outperforms the Ultra Rare Judith’s Tombstone by not imposing a speed penalty.

Lock Of Hair

Offering 40 additional seconds to Evil Within III and an increased stalk rate, the Lock of Hair is a strong choice for players using Lethal Pursuer and J. Myers Memorial, although the Hair Bow remains generally superior.

Fragrant Tuft of Hair

Despite reducing the stalking rate by 200%, this add-on grants infinite Evil Within III, eliminating the need to manage your power and allowing instant downs without stalking.
