If you're diving into *Monster Hunter Wilds* and eager to conquer one of your first encounters, the Chatacabra, this guide is for you. Known for its long tongue and close-range attacks, mastering the defeat or capture of this amphibious foe will set you on the right path in the game.

How to Beat Chatacabra in Monster Hunter Wilds

Chatacabra in Monster Hunter Wilds

The Chatacabra, a sizable frog-like monster, is primarily susceptible to Ice and Thunder attacks. It has no noted resistances but is immune to Sonic Bombs. Its combat style revolves around close-range engagements, often utilizing its tongue for attacks. However, it can also charge if you keep your distance. Given its smaller size, weapons like the Bow and Charge Blade might be less effective due to their multi-hit nature, which is better suited for larger targets.

Most of the Chatacabra's attacks are frontal, using its tongue and occasionally slamming with its front limbs. These slams are always preceded by the monster rearing up, giving you a clear signal to dodge or block. The only significant non-frontal attack is a sweeping motion with its tongue when it raises its head to the sky.

To swiftly defeat the Chatacabra, position yourself near its sides to avoid most attacks. Use weapons exploiting its elemental weaknesses to maximize damage. With this strategy, you'll soon be sporting a new frog skin hat!

How to Capture Chatacabra in Monster Hunter Wilds

Capturing Chatacabra in Monster Hunter Wilds

Capturing the Chatacabra follows the standard procedure in *Monster Hunter Wilds*. Since it can't fly, the process is straightforward. Equip yourself with a Shock Trap or a Pitfall Trap and at least two Tranq Bombs, though carrying one of each trap and up to eight Tranq Bombs is advisable for unexpected situations.

Engage the Chatacabra in combat until its health is low enough that its icon on the mini-map shows a small skull, indicating it's limping away to recuperate. Follow it to its chosen retreat spot, set up your trap, and lure it in. Once the Chatacabra is trapped, throw two Tranq Bombs to knock it out, completing the capture.
