"EA's Skate Adds Microtransactions Pre-Launch"

In a significant update to its eagerly anticipated free-to-play revival, EA's Skate has introduced microtransactions during its latest alpha test. As reported by Insider Gaming, Full Circle, the game's developer, incorporated a virtual currency called San Van Bucks into the ongoing closed alpha. Players can use real money to purchase these San Van Bucks, which are then used to acquire cosmetic items. Full Circle's aim is to refine Skate’s in-game store experience, ensuring that players enjoy a "positive experience when purchasing items from the Skate store." The developer values player feedback and encourages testers to share their thoughts to help enhance the game's early access launch.

It's important to note that Full Circle has informed testers that all progress will be reset before Skate enters early access. However, any purchases made with San Van Bucks will be converted back into the currency and made available again when early access begins. This move is designed to reassure players that their investments will not be lost.

Skate’s early access is slated for 2025, a timeline first hinted at during EA Play in 2020 when the game was described as being in its "very early" stages. Since then, Full Circle has maintained an open line of communication with the community, providing updates through closed playtests and its "The Board Room" video series. In 2022, the developer officially named the game 'skate.' and confirmed its free-to-play model across Xbox, PlayStation, and PC platforms.
