Nearly three decades since its theatrical debut, Paul W.S. Anderson's cult horror film Event Horizon is receiving an official prequel. IDW Publishing announces Event Horizon: Dark Descent, a five-issue comic series that will delve into the mysterious fate of the original Event Horizon crew prior to the movie's events.
The creative team includes writer Christian Ward (Batman: City of Madness), artist Tristan Jones (Aliens: Defiance), colorist Pip Martin (That Texas Blood), with cover contributions from Ward, Jeffrey Alan Love, Martin Simmonds, and Joshua Hixson.
IDW's official synopsis reveals:
*Maintaining the film's notorious R-rated horror, EVENT HORIZON: DARK DESCENT #1 (of 5) arrives this August. This standalone prequel explores Captain Kilpack and his crew's doomed voyage through unimaginable horrors, featuring Paimon, the sightless ruler of Hell, orchestrating their torment.*
"It's an incredible honor to expand this iconic universe," Ward commented. "We're taking bold, bloody creative risks that will permanently alter how viewers experience the original film."
"Christian's additions to the mythology will shock fans," the writer added. "The visceral imagery provides stunning visual opportunities, and with direct collaboration from the film's creators, we're crafting essential content for longtime devotees."
The inaugural issue of Event Horizon: Dark Descent launches August 20, 2025.
