Game Informer Magazine Makes Comeback Under New Ownership

After being abruptly discontinued by GameStop in August 2024, Game Informer has officially relaunched with its entire editorial team returning to operations. The revival comes courtesy of Gunzilla Games, which acquired the rights to the legendary gaming publication.

A New Chapter Begins

In a heartfelt editorial announcement, Game Informer Editor-in-Chief Matt Miller revealed the surprising turn of events. Gunzilla Games - developer of the free-to-play battle royale Off the Grid - not only secured the Game Informer brand but committed to bringing back the complete team, including production staff and more.

The acquisition marks an unexpected second life for the 30+ year-old gaming institution. Gunzilla, led in part by filmmaker Neill Blomkamp as Chief Creative Officer, has pledged complete editorial independence for the publication under its new entity, Game Informer Inc.

Rebuilding Better Than Before

Miller emphasized that the publication will retain full control over its coverage decisions, with no influence from ownership. The team has spent their hiatus preparing extensive content, including:

  • Comprehensive reviews of major 2024 releases they missed
  • A complete "Best of 2024" awards feature
  • Plans to revive the print magazine with enhanced quality
  • New membership benefits and subscription options

The website has already reactivated with its complete archive, while ambitious plans call for expanded video content, streaming initiatives, and broader industry partnerships. Fans can register for new accounts offering exclusive perks like archive access and a members-only newsletter.

This revival represents a rare victory for game journalism at a time when many publications face closures. With its seasoned team intact and renewed financial backing, Game Informer appears positioned to reclaim its status as a premier games media outlet.
