One of the most popular Prime Day streaming device deals from this past July is now available again for October. The highly-rated Google Streamer 4K is currently available for just $84, down from its usual $100 price tag. As one of the most feature-rich Android-based 4K streaming devices on the market, it includes the latest upgrades like smart hub capabilities and Thread compatibility. It's also significantly more affordable than competing models such as the Apple TV, Roku Ultra, and Nvidia Shield TV Pro.

Released in September 2024, the Google Streamer 4K succeeds the Chromecast 4K with improvements across the board. It boasts a new processor that's up to 22% faster, along with double the memory (2GB) and four times the onboard storage (32GB). You can connect via 802.11ac Wi-Fi or wired gigabit Ethernet. The USB Type-C charging port makes it easy to find a replacement power adapter if needed. The updated remote includes a useful remote-finder function for when it goes missing. The Streamer also serves as a smart home controller, functioning as both a Thread border router and a Matter hub.

Like other premium streaming devices, the Google Streamer 4K delivers up to 4K HDR streaming, with support for Dolby Vision, HDR10, and HDR10+. Although it comes with an HDMI 2.1 port, its maximum refresh rate is 4K at 60Hz. It does support Dolby Atmos when paired with compatible speakers, such as the Sonos Arc.

In terms of features, the Google Streamer 4K matches the Apple TV and Roku Ultra, but at a more budget-friendly price. While the Nvidia Shield TV Pro offers additional functionality—like the ability to run a Plex media server—it retails for $200. With built-in smart home features and support for Matter and Thread, the Google Streamer is a compelling option even at full price. When there's a discount, the value becomes even greater.
