NetEase's collectible card game, Harry Potter: Magic Awakened, is shutting down in select regions. The end-of-service (EOS) date for the Americas, Europe, and Oceania is October 29th, 2024. Players in Asia and some MENA regions can continue playing.
Initially released in China in September 2021 and globally on June 27th, 2023, the game blended Clash Royale-style gameplay with the Harry Potter universe. While initially popular for its card battles and Hogwarts atmosphere, player interest waned.
Reddit discussions highlight player frustration with changes to the reward system. The shift towards favoring paying players over skilled players, along with numerous nerfs and slower progression for free-to-play users, contributed to the game's decline.
The game has already been removed from app stores in the affected regions (as of August 26th). While its global lifespan was short, players in unaffected regions can still experience its dorm life, classes, secrets, and wizard duels.
