Discover the phenomenal success of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 and its future updates as it continues to break records for concurrent players on Steam.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (KCD2) has surged past 250,000 concurrent players on Steam as of February 9, 2025. Creative Director Daniel Vávra announced via Twitter (X) that the game's current peak of concurrent players on Steam reached 256,206. Remarkably, KCD2 has shattered its own concurrent player record every day since its release on February 4.
Reports suggest that KCD2 has sold approximately 890,000 copies on Steam alone. It currently holds the position of the second top-selling game on Steam, following closely behind Counter-Strike 2, and ranks as the fifth most-played game, trailing CS2, Dota 2, Marvel Rivals, and Banana.
With an impressive launch of 1 million copies sold, KCD2 is on track to reach 2 million copies sold based on current estimates.
The opening weekend success of KCD2 can be attributed to Warhorse Studios' meticulous attention to detail, enhancing player immersion and enjoyment. Known for its commitment to realism, the series continues to push boundaries with features like food spoilage, clothing and armor maintenance, and sword sharpening. KCD2 introduces new elements to deepen the medieval experience.
Senior Game Designer Ondřej Bittner highlighted a novel stealth mechanic in an interview with GamesRadar. He explained that as players accumulate dirt and grime, they will eventually receive a debuff indicating their body odor, alerting nearby enemies. "If you get the debuff that, you know, your body odor, you smell. There's like a circle around you," Bittner stated, adding, "Basically, you're broadcasting, like, I'm here."
Additionally, KCD2 introduces "handgonnes," a historically accurate firearm of the era. Bittner shared with PC Gamer that these early guns are challenging to use, have long reload times, are highly inaccurate, and can be dangerous for the user. "So we knew it was going to be a meme weapon, but we were cool with it," he admitted.
PR Manager Tobias Stolz-Zwilling emphasized their focus on authenticity over hyperaccuracy. "We want to have an intriguing and cool and fun and nice videogame. However, we try extremely hard to make it as authentic as possible. We double check the stuff, so that when the player plays it, or whenever someone checks it, that the things that are listed in there are at least plausible," he explained.
Warhorse Studios has outlined a robust post-launch roadmap to keep players engaged throughout 2025. KCD2 will offer free updates alongside paid DLC content.
Free updates planned for Spring 2025 include the Barber feature, Hardcore mode, and Horse Racing. Paid DLCs will roll out starting in Summer with "Brushes with Death," followed by "Legacy of the Forge" in Autumn, and "Mysteria Ecclesiae" in Winter.
With its stellar opening weekend and a promising roadmap, KCD2 is poised to maintain its commercial success and potentially set new records.
