Nintendo has released an update for Mario Kart World that resolves several in-game issues, including random crashes.
Version 1.1.1 is available now and will install automatically when Nintendo Switch 2 owners launch the game. This marks the first update since the day-one patch two weeks ago, which enabled online multiplayer on Nintendo's new console.
Over the past two weeks, players have uncovered countless Mario Kart World secrets—from unlocking Rainbow Road and Mirror Mode to spotting numerous Nintendo Easter eggs. However, some players encountered technical problems that this new patch aims to resolve.
Version 1.1.1 fixes crashes that could occur while watching replays or after an Online Play race.
It also addresses a bug on the DK Spaceport track where players could clip through a wall just before the finish line. The complete patch notes are listed below.
Fixed Issues
Items can now be used as intended. Controls no longer become unresponsive when selecting a character and attempting to start Free Roam from the Free Roam map. Resolved a crash that could occur while watching a replay after a race. Fixed a crash that sometimes happened after a race in Online Play. Rate fluctuations are now displayed correctly in Knockout Tour and Online Play. Reduced the frequency of communication errors when joining Friends in VS Race or Battle via Online Play. Players can no longer slip through the wall before the finish line on DK Spaceport. Corrected an issue where players could get stuck after falling off the track between Airship Fortress and Bowser’s Castle during a glide.

Mario Kart World has clearly been the standout title in the Switch 2’s launch lineup, selling faster in Japan than The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild did during the original Switch's launch. The breakout character Cow has become a fan favorite—even earning praise from a Japanese farmer who complimented the character’s realistically "muddy" backside.
What’s next for Mario Kart World? Nintendo hasn’t announced anything yet. But as players climb the online ranks and hunt for more P-Switches in Free Roam, the community is eager to see how the game might expand with new costumes, missions, or even entirely new tracks and areas.
“While Mario Kart World doesn’t entirely prove that an open-world approach was necessary for the series, its excellent multiplayer racing, incredible polish, and thrilling new Knockout Tour mode still honor its legacy,” IGN noted in our Mario Kart World review.
