Netflix Launches TV Party Games Using Phones as Controllers

Following a year marked by more setbacks than successes, Netflix Games is making another ambitious move. The streaming service is preparing to launch a collection of interactive party games that you can play directly from your TV. Read on to discover all the details.

A Shift in Strategy

After years of expanding its mobile game offerings, the streaming giant is venturing into entirely new territory. These are party games designed to be played on your television, using only your smartphone as a controller.

Given that this is Netflix, turning this concept into a reality should be within their reach. The company has already experimented with everything from mobile game adaptations to interactive television specials.

The initial lineup of games is set to launch during the holiday season, though a specific release date has not been announced. It features titles perfect for family gatherings or friendly game nights.

What Party Games Is Netflix Launching?

First up is LEGO Party, where players compete in themed mini-games and collect gold across various Challenge Zones. Boggle Party transforms the classic word search into a timed race for up to eight players.

The roster also includes Pictionary: Game Night and Tetris Time Warp. The former turns the beloved drawing game into a fast-paced guessing competition, while the latter takes players on a journey through the puzzle's history, from its 1984 origins to the iconic Game Boy era.

Rounding out the list is Party Crashers: Fool Your Friends, a game centered on identifying which of your friends is completely lost. The rollout will be gradual, so availability may vary depending on your region.

The setup is straightforward. Simply navigate to the Games tab on Netflix, select a title, and connect your phones to start playing. Netflix promises the process is "as easy as streaming a show on a Friday night."
