Nintendo has officially confirmed that the mysterious new button on the Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Con is, as previously rumored, the C button.
The confirmation comes via the newly announced Nintendo Today! app. The App Store and Google Play listings for the app feature an image that, upon close inspection, clearly shows a "C" on the button.
The new button was first shown alongside the Switch 2 earlier this year, but initial images of the updated Joy-Con did not display any lettering on it. Earlier reports had suggested it was called the "C" button, and this has now been verified.

There is significant speculation surrounding the function of this button. Some theories propose it could be used for wirelessly "casting" the Switch 2 to a TV or for screen sharing. Others speculate it might change the Joy-Con's mode of operation, perhaps to a mouse-like function. There is also conjecture that the button could be linked to new group or voice chat features.

In related news, Nintendo recently held a Direct presentation focused on the original Switch (here is a summary of all the announcements). It was during this event that the Nintendo Today! app was officially introduced.
Video game icon Shigeru Miyamoto revealed the company's new centralized news initiative as a final surprise during the showcase. This all-in-one mobile application offers a range of features for dedicated Nintendo fans to explore.
Acting as a hub for all Nintendo-related content, the app functions as a daily calendar and news source, delivering information directly to players as it breaks. Miyamoto illustrated that after the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct airs next week, fans can log into the Nintendo Today app to access all the updates, with additional news delivered "daily" from that point forward.
