The unveiling of the Switch 2 has been a significant boon for Nintendo, with the company's share price soaring. According to a VGC interview with Serkan Toto, CEO of Kantan Games, on January 16, 2025, the announcement led to a notable increase in Nintendo's stock value. Kantan Games, a consultancy focused on the Japanese gaming market, reported that Nintendo's shares reached a high of $15.77 USD, a substantial rise from the 2024 average of around $13 USD.

Toto credits this surge to the relief and excitement among investors following the Switch 2 reveal. "Investors were wary of a repeat of the Wii U scenario, where Nintendo experimented too far from what consumers wanted," Toto explained. "The Switch 2's more iterative approach, akin to an iPhone upgrade, has reassured them."

While the Switch 2's name and design have drawn mixed reactions from fans, its familiarity helps it stand out as Nintendo's new console, steering clear of the Wii U's fate. However, Toto noted that the impact of the reveal was somewhat dampened by prior leaks. "The leaks really spoiled the surprise," he said. "Even so, the original Switch announcement in 2016 was far more impactful."

The announcement was light on details about the new handheld, but Nintendo has scheduled a direct on April 2 to delve into its specifications, launch titles, and pricing. For more on the Switch 2, keep an eye on our regularly updated articles.

Hideki Kamiya's Outrage at Switch 2 Leakers

Hideki Kamiya, a renowned game director behind titles like Resident Evil, Okami, and Bayonetta, took to social media to express his fury at those leaking information about the Switch 2. "To those who leaked information about Switch 2 and those complicit in the leaks, I hope you'll all be cursed to always come home to find poop stuck to the soles of your shoes for the rest of your lives," Kamiya tweeted.

His frustration stems from his recent experience with the surprise announcement of Okami at The Game Awards, which remained unspoiled. "Having enjoyed the surprise announcement of Ōkami with fans, I feel strongly about this... May all the damn leakers be cursed, one and all," he added.

Kamiya criticized leakers for acting out of "selfish pleasure and self-satisfaction," which he believes undermines the excitement and potential business opportunities for Nintendo. He also pointed fingers at insiders who knew about the Switch 2 yet chose to leak its details.

Former Nintendo of America employees Kit Ellis and Krysta Yang echoed this sentiment in a YouTube video just days before the announcement. "Nintendo has been dealing with these leaks for months, and they are extremely upset about it," Yang stated. "They're very serious about this issue."

Leaks in the gaming industry can dampen player anticipation and set unrealistic expectations, potentially harming future sales and engagement. Nintendo has yet to comment on the full impact of the Switch 2 leaks.

Amid the Switch 2 leaks, one feature that has sparked much debate is the mysterious "C" button on the right Joy-Con, located below the Home Button. Two prevailing rumors about its function have emerged: one suggests it's related to communication features, while the other hints at mouse-like control capabilities.

The first rumor posits that the "C" button, code-named "Campus," enhances group and voice chat for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers, possibly including screen sharing to allow players to share their gaming experiences.

The second rumor suggests that the "C" button could enable the right Joy-Con to function as a mouse, potentially improving gameplay in genres like first-person shooters. Some believe the Switch 2 announcement subtly hinted at this feature, showing Joy-Cons sliding across a surface.

As with many aspects of the Switch 2, the true purpose of the "C" button remains a mystery until Nintendo's direct on April 2, where they are expected to reveal more about the console's features and specifications.
