The success of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered continues to impress, with the game soaring to become the third best-selling title in the U.S. for 2025 just one week after its release. Launched unexpectedly on April 22, the remaster has achieved a peak concurrent player count of 216,784 on Steam alone. This number, while significant, only represents a fraction of its total impact, as Oblivion Remastered also debuted on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and was immediately added to Microsoft's Game Pass service.

According to Mat Piscatella from Circana, Oblivion Remastered trails only behind Monster Hunter: Wilds and Assassin’s Creed: Shadows in the 2025 U.S. sales chart by dollar sales. It's important to note that these figures do not account for players accessing the game through subscription services, highlighting the remaster's strong sales performance despite its availability on Game Pass.

Given this success, speculation is rife about future remasters from Bethesda, with Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas being the most mentioned candidates. Bruce Nesmith, a designer on Fallout 3, has suggested that a remaster of Fallout 3 would likely see significant improvements in gun combat, aligning it more closely with the advancements seen in Fallout 4. In an interview with VideoGamer, Nesmith emphasized the evolution of gunplay from Fallout 3 to Fallout 4, indicating that a remaster would incorporate these enhancements.

Oblivion Remastered, crafted by Virtuos using Unreal Engine 5, boasts a plethora of visual and gameplay enhancements. Running at 4K resolution and 60 frames per second, the remaster goes beyond mere graphical upgrades. It includes revamped leveling systems, character creation, combat animations, and in-game menus. Additionally, new dialogue, a refined third-person view, and advanced lip sync technology have been introduced, earning praise from fans. Some even argue that Oblivion Remastered could be considered a remake rather than a remaster, though Bethesda has clarified their choice to label it as a remaster.

Nesmith also noted that a Fallout 3 remaster would likely follow a similar path of improvements as seen in Oblivion Remastered. He pointed out that the original Fallout 3 combat did not meet the standards of contemporary shooters at the time of its release, but the enhancements made in Fallout 4 could be integrated into a remastered version. Nesmith praised the visual and gameplay upgrades in Oblivion Remastered, suggesting it could be dubbed "Oblivion 2.0."

Bethesda's current projects include The Elder Scrolls VI and potential expansions for Starfield, alongside ongoing work on Fallout 76 and the Fallout TV series, which is set to explore New Vegas in its second season. This flurry of activity promises an exciting future for fans of Bethesda's expansive universes.
