Starbreeze Entertainment announces an offline mode for Payday 3, arriving later this month. However, this new mode requires an internet connection, a point of contention following player backlash over the game's initial lack of offline play.
The Payday series, known for its cooperative gameplay and blend of stealth and action, debuted in 2011. Payday 3 significantly enhanced stealth mechanics, offering players more strategic options. The upcoming "Boys in Blue" update introduces a new heist and addresses player demands.
The June 27th update includes a beta version of the offline mode, designed to improve the solo experience. While initially requiring online connectivity, future updates will enable true offline play. This new mode eliminates the need for matchmaking, a major complaint among solo players. Other missing features, such as The Safehouse, remain absent.
Payday 3's Offline Mode: A Work in Progress
Starbreeze confirms the solo mode is a work in progress, with ongoing improvements planned. Almir Listo, Head of Community and Global Brand Director, stated that the feature will be refined post-launch. The update also includes a new heist, free items, and enhancements such as a new LMG, three masks, and custom loadout naming.
Payday 3's launch was plagued by server issues, prompting an apology from CEO Tobias Sjögren. Subsequent updates addressed these problems, but criticism persists regarding the limited initial content (eight heists). Future heists will be added, though at a cost – the first post-launch heist, "Syntax Error," is priced at $10.
