Artifact Sets can be creatively combined, allowing a single Champion to equip multiple sets simultaneously. You can mix three 2-Sets, a 4-Set and a 2-Set, or even use Variable Sets in odd numbers while still reaping the benefits of Set Bonuses. These bonuses stack and are cumulative; for instance, wearing three pieces of the Life Set amplifies the HP bonus from 15% to a whopping 45%.
