Marvel Snap's roster of animal companions has been rather limited—Cosmo, Groose, Zabu, and Hit Monkey being the primary examples—until the arrival of Redwing, Falcon's avian ally, in the Brave New World season.
Redwing's Mechanics in Marvel Snap
Redwing is a 3-cost, 4-power card with a unique ability: The first time it's moved, a card from your hand is added to its previous location. This presents some key limitations:
Single-Use Ability: Redwing's ability triggers only once, regardless of attempts to reuse it via cards like Symbiote Spider-Man or by returning it to your hand. This significantly restricts its strategic applications.
Targeting Challenges: Precisely targeting the card added by Redwing proves difficult. Move decks often feature low-cost cards (like Iron Fist) that are undesirable targets; conversely, Scream decks typically manipulate opponent's cards rather than your own.
Despite these limitations, affordable move cards like Madame Web or Cloak (accessible to players with lower Collection Levels) can effectively utilize Redwing. Its potential for surprising victories exists by deploying a high-impact card like Galactus early or drawing a powerful card such as The Infinaut.
Optimal Redwing Deck Compositions (Day One)
Ares and Surtur, dominant in the previous season, return in a revised Scream-based deck incorporating Aero and Heimdall. Redwing surprisingly integrates well, despite Surtur's near-universal turn 3 deployment preference. This high-cost deck includes:
(Note: This deck heavily relies on Series 5 cards: Hydra Bob, Scream, Redwing, Surtur, Ares, and Cull Obsidian. Hydra Bob can be substituted with a 1-cost card like Rocket Raccoon or Iceman, but the other Series 5 cards are crucial.)
The strategy centers on turn 3 Surtur deployment, followed by high-power cards to amplify Surtur's power. Scream provides an alternative win condition by power manipulation. Polaris, Aero, and Magneto facilitate card manipulation, while Redwing, when moved into Heimdall's location, buffs Surtur and draws a high-power card.
Another potential Redwing deck utilizes Madame Web, given the reduced prevalence of move-centric decks post-Dagger nerf:
(This deck features two Series 5 cards: Madame Web and Doom 2099. Removing Madame Web necessitates Redwing's removal for another Ongoing card, such as Mobius M. Mobius.)
This deck prioritizes Doom 2099 to distribute power across locations. Madame Web assists in power distribution and provides an additional method to move Sam Wilson's shield. Redwing's activation is solely dependent on Madame Web. The late-game strategy involves deploying Doctor Doom or Spectrum for power amplification or a decisive power surge.
Redwing's Value: Spotlight Cache Keys or Collector's Tokens?
Currently, Redwing's value is questionable. Its limited power and reliance on a currently weak archetype make it a poor investment of Spotlight Cache Keys or Collector's Tokens. Saving resources for future, more impactful cards is recommended unless significant buffs are implemented.
