In the world of television, no beloved show truly stays gone forever. This year has already seen exciting revivals from iconic universes like *The Office* and *Buffy the Vampire Slayer*, and now, the fan-favorite 2000s medical sitcom *Scrubs* is set to make a comeback.

It's been over 24 years since Zach Braff first stepped into the role of JD, the idealistic junior doctor navigating the chaos of Sacred Heart Hospital. Now, Braff is officially returning to reprise his iconic role for ABC’s upcoming *Scrubs* reboot. The new series is expected to feature a blend of fresh talent and familiar faces from the original cast.

If this sounds reminiscent of previous attempts, that’s because it is. Back in Season 9, ABC experimented with passing the torch to a new generation of young doctors, while Braff and other main cast members made occasional appearances. Unfortunately, the concept didn’t resonate with fans or critics, and the season was cut short after only nine episodes.

Now, nearly two decades later, ABC is giving the revival another shot. The project is being spearheaded by *Scrubs* creator Bill Lawrence, who envisions the new iteration as a hybrid reboot and revival — a fresh take rooted in the heart of what made the original so special.

With Braff officially on board, insiders report that negotiations are likely underway to bring back more original cast members. In a past interview with Deadline, Lawrence hinted at the driving force behind the return:

"We've been talking about a lot, and I think the only real reason to do it is a combo. A: people wanting to see what the world of medicine was like for the people they love, which is part of any successful reboot. But B: I think that show always worked because you get to see young people dropped into the world of medicine, knowing young people that go there are super idealistic and are doing it because it's a calling."

The original *Scrubs* series aired for nine seasons, delivering 182 memorable episodes between 2001 and 2010. While details about the production timeline remain under wraps, fans are eagerly awaiting news on when filming will begin on the next chapter of *Scrubs*.
