Squad Busters is celebrating its first anniversary with the release of its monumental update 2.0 on May 13th. Since its launch in 2024, the game has struggled to capture the audience that Supercell had hoped for. With this significant update, the developers are aiming to breathe new life into the game and change its trajectory.
Squad Busters 2.0 isn't just a minor update; it's a complete overhaul, essentially a reboot. The core mechanics of the game, from battle dynamics to victory conditions, are being transformed. The most notable change is the introduction of Heroes. Players will now select a Hero to lead their squad into battle, and if your Hero is defeated, it's game over. This adds a new strategic layer to the gameplay.
Combat mechanics are also evolving. In the new version, players can move and attack simultaneously, leading to more dynamic, fast-paced, and chaotic matches. Additionally, the victory condition has shifted from eliminating all opponents to defeating the enemy Hero. While some players view this as a move towards a Brawl Stars-like experience, it certainly promises to shake up the gameplay.
To make room for these changes, several existing features are being removed. Modes such as Doppelgangers, Double Trouble, Epic Overload, Loot Machines, and Hatchling Herder will no longer be available. Additionally, some old skins and the previous progression systems are being phased out. Supercell plans to compensate players with Hero Points and other in-game items to ease the transition.

The urgency behind these changes is clear: Squad Busters has not yet achieved the level of success enjoyed by other Supercell titles like Clash of Clans or Brawl Stars. With the first anniversary approaching on May 29th, Supercell is pulling out all the stops to reignite interest. They've planned a series of daily piñata events that will give players the chance to unlock a new Hero, Mortis, among other rewards.
You can download Squad Busters 2.0 from the Google Play Store and experience the revamped gameplay for yourself.
