Taylor Swift Out of "Wicked" Cast: Potential Replacements

If you follow the yellow brick road all the way to November this year, you'll finally discover who's playing Dorothy in the highly anticipated sequel Wicked: For Good. One thing we can confirm right now? It's not Taylor Swift.

The first official trailer for For Good recently premiered, giving us just a mysterious rear view of Dorothy without revealing the actress behind the iconic role. This didn't stop the rumor mill from churning, with social media buzzing about Swift's potential casting - complete with fake AI-generated images of the pop star in Dorothy's signature blue gingham dress circulating online.

Given Swift's packed Eras Tour schedule overlapping with Wicked's filming period, her involvement seems highly unlikely. The smart money appears to be on rising star Alisha Weir, the talented 15-year-old who wowed audiences in the vampire thriller Abigail.

Weir's impressive resume already includes standout performances in Matilda the Musical and Wicked Little Letters. Her appearance at November's Wicked premiere wearing silver shoes (a subtle nod to Dorothy's original ruby slippers) only fueled casting speculation. While remaining coy in interviews, the young actress has never explicitly denied the rumors.

Director Jon M. Chu has hinted at Dorothy playing a more substantial role in the sequel compared to the stage production. "I won't confirm whether she appears in the second film," he told Huffington Post UK, "but there will undoubtedly be some interesting interactions and crossovers between our world and hers."

Alisha Weir, star of Abigail, emerges as frontrunner for Dorothy role.

Here's what we know about the sequel's storyline:

Under director Jon M. Chu's guidance, the concluding chapter reunites Oscar-nominated stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande in their electrifying roles. The story finds Elphaba (Erivo) living in exile as the feared Wicked Witch of the West, secretly battling for Oz's oppressed Animals while Glinda (Grande) enjoys her celebrity status in the Emerald City palace.

As Glinda prepares to marry Prince Fiyero (Jonathan Bailey) in a spectacular royal wedding, tensions escalate between the former friends. Their fractured relationship intensifies when a mysterious Kansas girl unexpectedly enters their world, setting events in motion that will permanently alter Boq (Ethan Slater), Fiyero, and Nessarose (Marissa Bode).

With Oz on the brink of chaos, Glinda and Elphaba must set aside their differences for one final stand. Their legendary friendship becomes the key to transforming not just themselves, but the fate of Oz itself.

Wicked: For Good makes its theatrical debut on November 21, 2025.
