A Pokémon enthusiast has crafted a Mega Evolution design for the Normal/Flying-type Toucannon and unveiled it online. The Pokémon franchise currently boasts 48 Mega Evolutions; 30 debuted in Pokémon X and Y (Generation VI), with the remainder added through the 2014 remakes of Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire for Nintendo 3DS systems.
Mega Evolutions are temporary transformations altering a Pokémon's appearance, boosting stats, and granting new abilities. Notable Pokémon capable of Mega Evolution include Lucario, Mewtwo, and Charizard (the latter possessing two Mega forms). Given the series' extensive roster of over 1,000 Pokémon, fan-created Mega Evolutions for Pokémon lacking official versions are unsurprising.
On the Pokémon subreddit, user Just-Drawing-Mons presented their Mega Toucannon concept. Toucannon, Alola's regional bird and the final evolution of Pikipek and Trumbeak, undergoes a visual transformation in this design, most notably in its beak's scope-like extension. While some Mega Evolutions adjust a Pokémon's type, Just-Drawing-Mons didn't specify any such changes for their Mega Toucannon.
Just-Drawing-Mons' creations also include a Mega Skarmory (Steel/Flying, Generation II). Beyond Mega Evolutions, this Reddit user has also produced interesting Pokémon redesigns, such as a Fighting-type Alakazam—often considered the best Psychic-type among the original 151.
Mega Evolutions, featured in spin-offs like Pokémon GO, Pokémon Masters EX, and Pokémon Unite, are set for a highly anticipated return in the core series with Pokémon Legends: Z-A. Located in Lumiose City (Kalos region, Generation VI), Pokémon Legends: Z-A is slated for a 2025 Switch release.
Several Pokémon are highly sought after for Mega Evolutions in the next main series game, including Dragonite (a powerful first-generation non-Legendary); Generation VI starters Chespin, Fennekin, and Froakie; and Flygon (whose Mega Evolution was planned for Pokémon X and Y but ultimately scrapped due to design challenges, according to Ken Sugimori, the franchise's lead character designer).
