Simply Sweet Games is a Canadian independent studio founded by women. Their first game, Criss Cross Castle, launches today on mobile. It's a fantasy word puzzle that blends traditional narrative with contemporary language technology.
Criss Cross Castle takes place in the magical kingdom of Lexiconia. You enter a world where the Illiterati have wiped out the written word, casting the realm into a grim Dark Age of Ignorance. With stories lost, you collect scattered words like magical relics to restore the land's forgotten tales.
Vocabulary becomes your primary tool. You'll wield words like spells to open paths, uncover treasures, and reveal secrets across an expansive, branching map. The experience combines word scrambles, exploration, and meetings with wandering merchants.
You can play as either Wanda or Pip. Wanda is a witch who tends gardens as skillfully as she manipulates language. Pip is a young squire guarding secrets behind their shield and tactical mind. Take a look at the game in the trailer below.
The journey also includes lighthearted mini-games, offering a break between the more challenging word battles. You'll find plenty of hidden scrolls, bonus objectives, and optional side quests.
Simply Sweet Games developed a custom language engine for the title, utilizing core large language model techniques. This system adjusts the game's difficulty based on the player's vocabulary, aids ESL learners, and filters unsuitable content.
The game is available now as a free download on the Google Play Store. The developers also plan a release on the Epic Games Store for Android users who favor that platform.
