To get started, you'll need an ELM 327-based adapter, available in Bluetooth or WiFi versions. Simply plug it into your vehicle’s OBD2 port, and let Piston guide you through the connection process step by step. Connection instructions can be accessed from the Home screen after initial setup or anytime from Settings.

To function as a car diagnostic tool, Piston requires a compatible ELM327 adapter (Bluetooth or WiFi). The app supports both OBD-II (also referred to as OBDII or OBD2) and EOBD standards.
Most vehicles sold in the United States since 1996 come equipped with OBD2 compliance. In the European Union, EOBD became mandatory for petrol vehicles starting in 2001 and for diesel vehicles in 2004. Similarly, in Australia and New Zealand, OBD2 compliance applies to petrol cars manufactured from 2006 onward and diesel cars from 2007 onwards.
Important: The data accessible through this app depends on what your vehicle supports and provides via the OBD2 interface.
