Boerenbridge, also known in Flanders as Chinese Pooping, is a captivating card game that challenges players to accurately predict and achieve the number of strokes they can win in each round. Here's a detailed guide on how to play and keep track of points:
Objective
The primary goal of Chinese Pooping is to predict and achieve the exact number of strokes you can win in each round. Points are earned based on how well you meet your prediction.
Gameplay
Dealing Cards
- Round 1: Each player is dealt 1 card.
- Round 2: Each player is dealt 2 cards.
- Round 3: Each player is dealt 3 cards.
- This pattern continues, increasing by one card each round, until the maximum number of cards is reached. For example, with five players, the maximum is 10 cards per player.
- After reaching the maximum, the number of cards dealt per player decreases back to 1 card in the final round.
Bidding
- Players predict the number of strokes they expect to win, starting with the player to the left of the dealer.
- The highest bidder determines the trump suit for that round.
- The dealer, who bids last, cannot predict a number of strokes that would make the total sum of strokes equal to the number of cards dealt in that round. For instance, if 7 cards are dealt, and the first three players bid 0, 3, and 2 respectively, the dealer cannot bid 2 strokes because 0 + 3 + 2 + 2 = 7.
Playing the Round
- Players take turns playing cards in a clockwise direction, trying to win strokes according to their bid.
- The player who wins a stroke leads the next card.
Scoring
- Points for Meeting Your Bid: If you exactly meet your bid, you score 10 points plus the number of strokes you bid. For example, if you bid 3 strokes and win exactly 3, you score 13 points (10 + 3).
- Points for Over or Under Bidding: If you overbid or underbid, you lose 10 points for each stroke you are off. For instance, if you bid 3 strokes but win 2 or 4, you lose 10 points.
Winning the Game
- The game continues through all rounds, from 1 card up to the maximum and back down to 1 card.
- The player with the highest total points at the end of the final round wins the game.
