Scanwords in Russian represent a unique cultural phenomenon globally. No other language boasts such a rich mix of literary questions, humorous inquiries, and queries that reflect current global events, all embedded within standard crosswords. The Russian people have a deep appreciation for the word—they cherish it, honor it, and regard it as a treasure.
The scanwords featured in our application are diverse, catering to different levels of difficulty. You'll find simpler and more complex puzzles, some with photographs, and others with classic or associative questions, such as "one word" or "one word, two words," reminiscent of Elder Fur's tips. Each magazine includes one English-Russian scanword and one "holey" scanword, the reason for which you'll discover as you engage with them. Each page introduces you to a member of our cheerful family, inviting you to join the fun!
All scanwords are free for our readers. This is an annual collection, comprising 52-53 issues with 20 scanwords each. The full yearly set will occupy about 50 MB on your phone—thanks to the compact images and straightforward text, we respect your device's storage space.
You don't need an internet connection to enjoy the puzzles, provided the scanwords are already downloaded on your device. A new issue of the magazine is released every Friday. If you've enabled notifications, you'll receive a reminder every Friday at noon local time. When you open the app, the new issue downloads automatically and won't repeat if successful. You can also choose to download or delete individual magazines on your phone or use the "Settings" option to download all magazines at once.
The core features, including access to all scanwords, are free for our users, with advertisers funding the experience. Advertisers are permitted a single narrow banner on each page and one interstitial ad before opening a scanword. Importantly, our advertisers do not disrupt your puzzle-solving experience. Additionally, they reward readers with free hints for viewing their videos.
Readers have the option, though not the obligation, to interact with advertisers by: a) permanently disabling ads, b) subscribing to remove ads and gain unlimited hints for the subscription period, or c) amassing hints in bulk. These options are clearly displayed in the "Shop."
