- Cut Mode: The game starts without a chosen trump suit. If a player cannot follow the suit led, the card they play becomes the trump for that deal.
Once a trump suit is established, the highest card of that suit played in a trick wins it. If no trump cards are played, the highest card of the suit led takes the trick. The winner of each trick leads the next one, and all captured tricks are kept face down in a pile by the winner.
A partnership wins the hand if they capture three or four of the tens. Capturing all four tens is known as a Mendicot, a significant achievement in the game.
