Polish developer 11 Bit Studios has unveiled a new trailer for their eagerly awaited sci-fi adventure, The Alters, as the game nears its release date. In this latest reveal, the studio not only showcased their upcoming title but also took a moment to reminisce about one of their most impactful projects, the wartime survival game This War of Mine. Released over a decade ago, This War of Mine catapulted 11 Bit Studios into the global spotlight, known for its somber and despairing atmosphere.
In contrast, The Alters explores a more vibrant and often humorous storyline, focusing on the trials and tribulations of alternate versions of the protagonist, Jan Dolski. Despite the stark differences in tone and setting, the developers highlight a deep thematic connection between the two games. At their core, both titles are fundamentally about survival, albeit in vastly different contexts.
This War of Mine immerses players in the grim realities of war, where they must manage resources and navigate the daily struggles of a besieged city to keep a group of civilians alive. On the other hand, The Alters presents survival as a frantic race against time. Players must continuously relocate their mobile base to escape an unrelenting sun that turns everything to dust.
Both games challenge players to step beyond their comfort zones, venturing into hostile territories to secure essential resources. The key distinction lies in the protagonists: This War of Mine tasks players with guiding a diverse group of civilians, whereas The Alters introduces a unique team made up of different versions of the main character, Jan Dolski.
The Alters is slated for release in 2025 and will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Excitingly, the game will be accessible on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass from launch day, ensuring a wide audience can experience this innovative take on survival.
