Elden Ring Nightreign reached a remarkable sales milestone, moving 2 million copies on its very first day.
Publisher Bandai Namco confirmed the news, stating, "Pre-orders and initial sales have propelled the game past the incredible 2 million unit mark."
The multiplayer-focused spin-off launched overnight and swiftly climbed the Steam most-played charts, achieving an impressive peak of 313,593 concurrent players.
Of course, this only paints a partial picture, as Microsoft and Sony do not publicly share Xbox and PlayStation player counts. However, FromSoftware's announcement of 2 million copies sold provides a clear indicator of Elden Ring Nightreign's substantial launch size.

The original Elden Ring was a phenomenal success, selling 30 million units since its 2022 launch. It seems unlikely Nightreign will match that scale, but for a more relevant comparison, the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion sold 5 million copies in its first three days back in 2024. It will be interesting to see if Nightreign receives a similar three-day sales announcement.
Despite the strong player numbers, Elden Ring Nightreign's reception is not entirely smooth. It currently holds a 'Mixed' user review rating on Steam. Common complaints include the lack of a two-player "duo" co-op mode and integrated voice chat. Players also report a brutally difficult solo experience and frustration with forming a full three-player squad. A patch aimed at easing solo play is scheduled for release next week.
As noted in IGN's Elden Ring Nightreign review: "Let's address the most crucial caveat first: if you plan to play Nightreign entirely solo and aren't a hardcore Elden Ring player actively seeking ways to make that challenging game even tougher, then Nightreign isn't for you. A single-player option technically exists, but it's so poorly balanced that I'd be shocked if it isn't patched and adjusted within the first month. This comes from someone who lives and breathes these types of games."
