Konami dropped major news during its Press Start Live showcase: Bloober Team is officially developing a remake of the original Silent Hill game.
The brief showcase offered just a tease - flashing the iconic Silent Hill logo accompanied by its haunting theme music. While no release window was announced, this confirmation follows Bloober's successful partnership with Konami for the Silent Hill 2 remake.
In February, Bloober signed a new agreement with Konami after the SH2 remake's success. We now know this was for revisiting the 1999 PlayStation classic that started it all - featuring Harry Mason's desperate search for his missing daughter through the fog-shrouded nightmare town.
The Silent Hill 2 remake's commercial success (over 2 million sold) clearly influenced this decision. In an IGN poll, 61% of 20,000 voters chose the original Silent Hill as the next remake candidate.
Bloober CEO Piotr Babieno stated: "Our Silent Hill 2 collaboration proved we could honor the original while introducing meaningful innovations. The critical reception (86/100 Metacritic) and awards like IGN Japan's Game of the Year 2024 validated our approach."
The franchise resurgence continues with multiple projects:
The SH2 remake launched October 2024 on PS5/PC, selling 1 million copies in days. IGN's 8/10 review praised it as "a great way to revisit survival horror's most dread-inducing destination."
