Capcom has subtly hinted at the next installment in the iconic Resident Evil series, potentially teasing Resident Evil 9 within a celebratory video for reaching 10 million players of Resident Evil 4. Released on April 25, the video features Ada Wong in a secretive conversation with a notorious villain, followed by a scene of Leon amidst an infected crowd adorned with party hats, humorously marching towards a church.
The video takes a playful turn with Dr. Salvador strumming his chainsaw like a guitar to a rock song, with Leon energetically fist-pumping in the foreground. Behind him, a rustic "Thank you for playing" sign catches the eye. However, a clever twist comes into play when the sign is viewed sideways: the boards form the Roman numeral "IX," representing the number 9.
While some might dismiss this as a mere coincidence, the keen observations of horror game leaker Dusk Golem highlight the intentional addition of the sign's lower plank, absent in earlier frames of the video. "I know what you did here," remarked one astonished viewer, punctuating their comment with a wide-eyed emoji.
Capcom has officially announced that Resident Evil 7 director Koshi Nakanishi will helm the next mainline entry in the Resident Evil series. Reflecting on the challenge of following up Resident Evil 7, Nakanishi stated, "It was really difficult to figure out what to do after [Resident Evil 7]. But I found it, and to be honest, it feels substantial. I can't share any details just yet, but I hope you're excited for the day I can." Though not confirmed, rumors suggest the setting might be an island inspired by Singapore.
