The upcoming reboot of the Narnia series, helmed by Greta Gerwig, known for her work on the Barbie movie, has added the talented Carey Mulligan to its ensemble cast. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mulligan joins an impressive lineup that includes former James Bond actor Daniel Craig, Sex Education star Emma Mackey, and the iconic Meryl Streep.
Gerwig, who will serve as both writer and director, is set to bring a fresh perspective to C.S. Lewis' beloved fantasy series, The Chronicles of Narnia. The new film will adapt the prequel novel, The Magician's Nephew, which unfolds before the events of the well-known The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.
Carey Mulligan, celebrated for her numerous accolades including Oscar, BAFTA, and Golden Globe nominations, will portray Mabel Kirke, the mother of the story's young protagonist, Digory. Daniel Craig is slated to play the titular magician and Digory's uncle, while Emma Mackey will embody a younger version of the infamous White Witch. Meryl Streep will lend her voice to the role of Aslan, the series' majestic and god-like talking lion.
This isn't the first cinematic journey into Narnia. A previous trilogy spanning from 2005 to 2010 adapted the first three books of Lewis' series: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Prince Caspian, and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. These films showcased Tilda Swinton as the White Witch and Liam Neeson voicing Aslan.
Gerwig's latest endeavor follows the success of her 2023 film, Barbie, which starred Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling and garnered eight Academy Award nominations, ultimately winning for Best Original Song.
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Magician's Nephew is anticipated to hit theaters in 2026, promising a new chapter in the enchanting world of Narnia.
