Sid Meier's Civilization 7 is set to revolutionize the gaming experience with its VR version, slated for release this Spring 2025. Dive into the details of what Civ 7 VR has to offer and get the latest updates on the entire Civ 7 series.

Sid Meier’s Civilization 7 (Civ 7) is making its grand entrance into virtual and mixed reality exclusively on Meta Quest 3 and 3S. The announcement came on February 8, 2025, during the Civ World Summit Event, marking a significant milestone for the franchise as it ventures into new gaming territories.
Civ 7 Executive Franchise Producer Dennis Shirk expressed his enthusiasm in a recent blog post on the 2K website, stating, We're just days away now from the full launch of Civilization VII and look forward to ushering in a new era of strategy excellence for our fans!
Chris Pruett, Meta's Director of Games, also shared his optimism about the partnership, noting, With the recent release of Meta Quest 3S and our strongest games and entertainment portfolio yet, it’s an awesome time for mixed reality.
He further emphasized, Civilization VII - VR is further evidence of that momentum: it’s a genuine Civ experience made specifically for deep strategy fans.
While Civ 7 is available on PlayStation consoles, the VR version will not be released on PSVR2 at this time.
Civ 7 VR introduces players to a Command Table, allowing them to strategize and navigate the game world as if they were playing a life-sized board game. Players can switch between immersive virtual reality and mixed reality modes, enhancing the gaming experience by adapting to the player's physical environment.
In virtual reality, players find themselves in a detailed museum overlooking a personalized vista based on their chosen leader. In mixed reality, the Command Table seamlessly integrates with the player's real-world surroundings.
The game supports single-player, co-op, and competitive multiplayer modes, accommodating up to four players on Meta Quest 3 or 3S headsets. Players can invite AI-controlled opponents or challenge friends in multiplayer battles, all while seeing each other's avatars across the Command Table. Online multiplayer requires both a 2K Account and a Meta Account.
Firaxis Games has actively engaged with the community feedback gathered during Civ 7’s early access phase. Launched on February 6, 2025, for those who purchased the Deluxe Edition or Founder’s Edition, the game has garnered mixed reviews on Steam, with many players citing issues with the User Interface.
In response, Firaxis Games has committed to addressing these concerns, with a primary focus on improving the UI. Their plans include enhancing UI interactions, improving map readability, and refining areas of polish such as formatting.
Additionally, the developers are considering community-requested features like adding teams to multiplayer games, introducing a broader selection of map types, and more. A quality-of-life update is scheduled for March, aiming to refine UI elements, balance AI, adjust diplomacy and crises, and implement further bug fixes.
Civilization 7 VR is set to launch in Spring 2025 on Meta Quest 3 and 3S, with no specific release date announced yet. Meanwhile, Civilization 7 is currently in early access and will officially launch worldwide on February 11, 2025, across PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Switch, and PC.
