Eye-Steering Cars Now in Early Access on Android

Open Drive is a groundbreaking racing game for mobile devices, crafted with inclusivity at its core. Launched in early access on Android, it’s developed by SpecialEffect, a charitable organization dedicated to helping physically disabled gamers enjoy video games. In collaboration with Sun & Moon Studios, they’ve created a game that adapts to diverse play styles, ensuring everyone gets a chance to race.

What Sets Open Drive Apart?

This isn’t just another racing game—it’s a celebration of accessibility. Built from the ground up to cater to all types of players, Open Drive supports multiple input methods. Whether you prefer touch controls, keyboard and mouse, Switch Access, or controllers, the game automatically detects your preferred setup and adjusts seamlessly.

But the real highlight? Open Drive introduces mobile-specific eye control technology. Compatible with eye gaze cameras, players can steer their vehicles simply by looking left or right. This feature opens doors for individuals with physical challenges, allowing them to participate in an open-world racing experience like never before. The game’s four distinct open worlds—Stunt, Speed, Snow, and Meadow—are all fully accessible via this innovative control system.

Gameplay Flexibility

The gameplay itself is as adaptable as the controls. You can explore the open world at your own pace, collecting orbs and enjoying the scenery. Alternatively, challenge yourself with high-score pursuits and perform daring stunts using the Roadster, Trickster, or Speedster vehicles. Tweak the speed settings to match your comfort level, making each race uniquely yours.

Open Drive in Early Access

Currently available in early access on Android, Open Drive offers a taste of its full potential. While the eye control functionality is still in development, the rest of the game is fully functional. Switch Access on Android is supported, and each input method comes with its own tailored setup options.

Touch controls, for instance, offer both ‘Precise’ and ‘Classic’ modes, letting you steer intuitively through taps or directional gestures. Similarly, Switch Access, mouse, keyboard, and Android-compatible controllers each have their own configurations, ensuring a personalized experience.

Open Drive is free to download on the Google Play Store during early access. The full version, expected later this summer, will include the complete eye control functionality. If you’re intrigued by this innovative project, head over to the Play Store to try it out today.
