The release date for Gears of War: Reloaded has been confirmed, marking the franchise's debut on PlayStation consoles alongside Xbox. Discover what enhancements await players in this multiplatform remaster.
For years, Gears of War remained an Xbox exclusive - one of Microsoft's most defining franchises. On May 6th, Xbox surprised fans via Twitter by announcing Gears of War: Reloaded will launch simultaneously across all platforms on August 26th - including PlayStation 5.
This move aligns with Microsoft's growing commitment to multiplatform releases. During January's GamerTag Radio interview, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer emphasized: "While we cherish our platform, we won't restrict access to the incredible games our studios create."
This strategic shift suggests the upcoming Gears of War: E-Day might follow suit with simultaneous PlayStation release. However, Xbox hasn't officially confirmed these plans, leaving fans to speculate about future exclusivity changes.

The announcement arrives barely nine years after 2015's Gears of War: Ultimate Edition. In May 5th's Xbox Wire post, The Coalition's Studio Head Mike Crump reflected: "As we approach Gears' 20th anniversary in 2026, we're thrilled to welcome new players into our universe through Reloaded."

The remaster delivers substantial technical improvements over Ultimate Edition. While that version offered 1080p/30fps campaigns and 60fps multiplayer, Reloaded boasts native 4K/60fps campaign gameplay and 120fps multiplayer. Enhancements include:
The package includes all post-launch content - bonus campaign missions, multiplayer maps, modes, unlockable characters, and cosmetics.

Existing Ultimate Edition owners receive Reloaded free via Xbox message before August 26th. The remaster launches at $39.99 on Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC, with day-one availability through Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscriptions.
