Dive into the radiation-soaked world of Fallout 76 with Season 20, where players can embrace their inner Ghoul. Discover all the ghoul-centric features and the new level 50 character boost that's enhancing gameplay.
Fallout 76's latest update, "The Ghoul Within," is now live and transforms the way players experience Appalachia. Announced by Bethesda on their website on March 18, this season introduces a variety of ghoul-related enhancements, mechanics, and fresh cosmetics to customize players' C.A.M.P.s.
Players can embark on the "Leap of Faith" questline to undergo Ghoulification, leading them to a previously unexplored area of the Savage Divide. Here, they'll encounter new characters instrumental in their transformation into a Ghoul. This new form grants access to unique abilities such as Glow and Feral, along with 30 exclusive Ghoul perks, or "Gherks."
The Feral ability replaces traditional hunger and thirst mechanics, providing different boosts based on the Feral meter's level. At its lowest, 0%, gameplay shifts dramatically: "+150% Melee Damage, -5 Endurance, -99 Charisma, -30 Max HP, -20 Max AP, -300% Hip-fire Gun Accuracy & V.A.T.S. Accuracy."
On the other hand, the Glow ability allows players to consume radiation, granting immunity to diseases and mutations, and even causing players to emit a glow. This ability not only increases maximum health and heals damage but also enhances the effectiveness of Ghoul-exclusive perks.
There are 28 perks available for selection, plus two new legendary perks tailored for Ghouls. Note that perks related to Hunger, Thirst, and Chem Resistance are not available to Ghouls, as they don't benefit from these.
Navigating the wasteland as a Ghoul becomes more manageable with the unique abilities and perks gained. However, certain factions like the Brotherhood of Steel may react hostilely to Ghouls, potentially blocking access to some questlines.
Fortunately, a new NPC named Jaye offers disguises that allow Ghouls to interact with restricted content. If the Ghoul lifestyle isn't for you, players can revert to human form via the Character Screen, though this is a one-time choice. Reverting back to a Ghoul requires purchasing the Ghoul Retransformation for 1000 Atoms.
Both newcomers and seasoned veterans of Appalachia can now expedite their journey with the Level 50 Character Boost, introduced in Season 20. For 1500 Atoms, players can instantly access multiplayer features like Daily Ops, Public Events, and some story content.
Alongside this, the update includes numerous bug fixes, balance adjustments, accessibility improvements, combat rebalancing, and weapon damage tweaks. Bethesda has also announced the upcoming "The Big Bloom" update scheduled for April 29, as part of their season calendar.
Since its launch in November 2018, Fallout 76 has overcome its initial challenges and now boasts a "Mostly Positive" rating on Steam, with 76% of reviews being positive. The game is available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
