Rey Dau is the first dragon monster you'll encounter in Monster Hunter Wilds. This creature wields the lightning element, rendering it immune to lightning-based attacks. However, it's particularly vulnerable to water and ice. The most effective target is its head, boasting a 4-star weakness. The wings are also a good target with a 3-star weakness.
Avoid attacking the torso as it's heavily armored. If hitting the head proves challenging, aim for the tail instead. The legs are also not ideal due to their strong protection. For status ailments, all are effective except Stun and Paralysis, given Rey Dau's lightning element.
A key strategy to swiftly defeat Rey Dau is deploying a Flash Pod. This tool temporarily stuns the monster, allowing you to land critical hits. When Rey Dau unleashes its lightning attack, target its horn for significant damage. Activate Focus Mode to spot the glowing red horns for precise strikes.
To enhance your survival chances, equip gear that boosts your resistance to elements. The Hope Armor set, with its Divine Blessing skill, reduces damage and offers resistance to Lightning and Fire. Consider consuming meals that further boost your elemental resistance.
If dodging is a challenge, position yourself near Rey Dau's legs. The monster primarily attacks areas in front and behind it, making the legs a safer spot.
Rey Dau frequently changes locations during the battle. In the open plains, utilize Vine Traps on the lone tree to temporarily stun the monster. Be cautious when it returns to its nest, as it can unleash a follow-up lightning attack that can stun you. Exercise patience to avoid fatal shocks.

Instead of fighting to the death, you can capture Rey Dau for rewards. Reduce its health until it's nearly defeated, indicated by a skull icon near its icon on the mini-map. Use a Pitfall Trap to capture it, as Shock Traps are ineffective against this lightning dragon. Follow up with a Tranquilizer to prevent escape, acting quickly within the limited time frame.
Monster Hunter Wilds is available now on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
