Mortal Kombat: Onslaught Shuttered Just One Year After Launch

Warner Bros. Games is discontinuing Mortal Kombat: Onslaught less than a year after its launch. The mobile game was removed from the Google Play Store and App Store on July 22nd, 2024. In-app purchases will be disabled starting August 23rd, 2024, with servers officially shutting down on October 21st, 2024.

The reasons behind the closure remain undisclosed, though it coincides with NetherRealm Studios' recent closure of its mobile games division, responsible for other titles like Mortal Kombat Mobile and Injustice. This suggests a potential shift in the company's mobile gaming strategy.

The question of refunds for in-game purchases remains unanswered. NetherRealm and Warner Bros. have yet to provide details regarding compensation for spent currency or customization items, promising further updates soon. Players are advised to monitor official announcements on X (formerly Twitter) for any news concerning refunds.

Released in October 2023 to commemorate the franchise's 30th anniversary, Mortal Kombat: Onslaught offered a unique take on the series. Unlike its combat-focused predecessors, it blended action-adventure RPG elements with a cinematic narrative, drawing comparisons to free-to-play mobile MOBAs. The game centered around Raiden and player-controlled fighters uniting to thwart the fallen Elder God Shinnok's power grab.
