Nintendo has officially announced that the upcoming Switch 2 Nintendo Direct presentation will run for approximately 60 minutes.
This extended duration is notable for a Nintendo Direct event, indicating that Nintendo has a substantial lineup to showcase in this highly anticipated presentation.
The Switch 2 Nintendo Direct is scheduled to begin on April 2, 2025, at 6:00 AM PDT / 9:00 AM EDT / 2:00 PM BST. Nintendo has stated this Direct will provide a "closer look" at the console, following its initial preview earlier this year.
The initial reveal showcased the Switch 2's design, a teaser that appeared to be Mario Kart 9, and hinted at a potential 'mouse' functionality for the new Joy-Con controllers.
Nevertheless, several key questions about the Switch 2 remain, such as the purpose of the new Joy-Con 'C' button, the console's processing power, and the functionality of its newly added ports.
The Nintendo Direct is also expected to reveal the full launch lineup of games for the Switch 2, along with the official release date, which is projected for sometime between June and September 2025. It is also hoped that Nintendo will announce the console's price; analysts estimate it will be around $400.
A clearer picture of the Switch 2's game library is beginning to emerge. Numerous third-party titles are rumored to be in development for the console. In a discussion with IGN, developers from Firaxis, the studio behind Civilization 7, described the apparent Joy-Con mouse mode as "definitely intriguing." Additionally, French video game and accessories manufacturer Nacon, known for titles like Greedfall 2, Test Drive Unlimited, and RoboCop: Rogue City, has confirmed it has Switch 2 games prepared for launch. The highly anticipated Hollow Knight: Silksong is also rumored to be targeting a Switch 2 release. EA has expressed that franchises like Madden, FC, and The Sims would be excellent fits for the Switch 2.
Last week's Nintendo Direct also introduced a new Virtual Game Cards feature designed for sharing games between systems, which prompted further discussion, particularly regarding the Nintendo Switch 2, as noted in a footnote on an official Nintendo web page.
In related news, Nintendo confirmed a Nintendo Treehouse: Live | Nintendo Switch 2 event, featuring hands-on gameplay sessions for upcoming Switch 2 titles. This will be broadcast on April 3 and April 4, starting at 7:00 AM PT each day.
