Since the reveal of the Nintendo Switch 2, one particular detail from the trailer has sparked widespread fan speculation—the unique movement of the Joy-Cons. In particular, viewers noticed how they appeared to function like PC mouse controllers. Now, we finally have official confirmation: the Joy-Cons support a new "mouse mode" that allows players to glide them across flat surfaces, with the analog sticks acting as left- and right-click inputs similar to a traditional mouse. What’s more, two Joy-Cons can be used simultaneously in mouse mode—one in each hand—or even mixed, with one in standard control mode and the other in mouse mode. The possibilities are wide open.

During the Nintendo Direct presentation, the company showcased mouse mode in action through a demo titled *Drag and Drive*. This fast-paced sports title blends elements of Rocket League with three-on-three basketball, featuring robotic athletes piloting wheelchair-style vehicles. To play, users must utilize two Joy-Cons in mouse mode to maneuver their characters across the court, aiming to score baskets while dodging opponents. The gameplay mechanic feels intuitive and adds a fresh layer of interactivity to the system's evolving control scheme.

Ever since the reveal trailer teased this functionality, fans have been eager to learn more about how mouse mode could expand gameplay potential. Curiosity reached new heights when we reached out to Firaxis Games—developers of *Civilization 7*—for details, only to receive an intentionally vague response. Features like mouse mode and the newly introduced C button have fueled ongoing discussions about the Nintendo Switch 2, helping shift the narrative away from early critiques that the console was playing it too safe compared to Nintendo’s typically bold approach.
