Nintendo confirms players can utilize Switch 2 Joy-Con mouse controls directly from the Home screen.
Following the Nintendo Switch 2 announcement, speculation arose regarding the new Joy-Con's mouse functionality. Last month, Nintendo officially verified "mouse mode," enabling surface-based controller movement with analog sticks replicating standard mouse clicks. Notably, users can operate two Joy-Con simultaneously—either both in mouse mode or pairing one mouse-mode controller with another in standard mode.
New details have emerged through the Nintendo Today app and X/Twitter demonstrations, revealing Home menu navigation via Joy-Con 2 mouse controls on Switch 2.

"Positioning the Joy-Con 2 attachment-side down on any flat surface activates an on-screen cursor," Nintendo clarified. "For cursor visibility, gently slide the controller across tables or smooth surfaces as demonstrated.
"During mouse operation," Nintendo continued, "tilting the control stick facilitates menu navigation—applicable both on the Home screen and within supported software." Traditional thumbstick functionality resumes automatically when returning the Joy-Con 2 to horizontal orientation.
While full game compatibility remains undisclosed, Nintendo has showcased mouse functionality in Mario Party Jamboree, Metroid Prime 4 Switch 2 versions, and the sports title Drag x Drive.
The Nintendo Switch 2 launches June 5 following April 24 pre-orders at $449.99—which unsurprisingly sold rapidly. For purchasing details, consult IGN's comprehensive Switch 2 pre-order guide.
