Overwatch 2 Stadium Summer Roadmap Unveiled by Blizzard

Blizzard Entertainment has unveiled its Overwatch 2 Stadium roadmap for 2025, offering a glimpse into the exciting heroes and features planned for Season 17, Season 18, Season 19, and beyond. This roadmap is part of a broader effort to keep the community engaged and informed about the future of this popular hero shooter.

In a detailed Director's Take blog post, game director Aaron Keller delved into the past, present, and future of the new Stadium mode. Released just over a week ago, Stadium has already made waves within the Overwatch community. Keller's post not only outlines the upcoming content but also provides insight into the mode's development and performance since its launch.

The rollout of new content for Stadium begins with the addition of the new Damage hero, Freja, in a mid-season patch for Season 16. However, it's Season 17 in June that promises to elevate the experience further. Players can look forward to the inclusion of Junkrat, Sigma, and Zenyatta, along with the introduction of the Esperança Push map and Samoa Control map. These additions aim to enhance the strategic depth of the mode.

Blizzard plans to expand Stadium's functionality during Season 17 by introducing Unranked Crossplay, new all-star rewards, custom games, additional example builds, and the ability to save and share builds. While it's not specified whether all these features will be available from the start of the season or rolled out over time, this update is set to enrich the gameplay significantly.

Moving into Season 18, Overwatch's beloved gorilla hero, Winston, will join the fray, accompanied by Sojourn and Brigitte. New maps like Route 66 and London will also be added, along with a fresh Payload Race game mode that includes two new maps and a Stadium trials feature. Players will also have the option to Endorse their teammates, fostering a more positive community environment.

How has Stadium Performed so Far?

The Overwatch 2 team has shared impressive statistics for Stadium, indicating its success since launch. The mode has surpassed Quick Play and Competitive in popularity, amassing 2.3 million matches and 7.8 million hours of play during its launch week alone. This is more than double the engagement seen during Overwatch Classic's launch week.

Notable performance data includes Lucio being the hero with the highest win rate yet the lowest pick rate. Additionally, players have spent a staggering 900 billion Stadium Cash and selected 206 million items for their builds, showcasing the mode's deep engagement and customization options.

In his Director's Take, Keller confirmed that Stadium was in development before Overwatch 2's launch, dispelling rumors that it was created to compete with Marvel Rivals, which debuted in December 2024. He emphasized Blizzard's commitment to transparent communication, promising more insights into Stadium next week.

Keller reaffirmed Blizzard's dedication to maintaining Overwatch 2's core experiences, such as Quick Play and Competitive, alongside Stadium. He stated, "We’re still pouring as much time, energy, and passion into these as we always have. Stadium isn't competing for those resources: it’s giving us more opportunities to deliver Overwatch in a new, exciting way."
