Persona 4 Remake Confirmed, Original VA Exits

The highly anticipated Persona 4 remake appears increasingly likely, as original cast member Yuri Lowenthal confirms he won't be reprising his role in the unannounced project.

Lowenthal, who famously voiced Yosuke Hanamura in Persona 4 and subsequent spinoffs, revealed on BlueSky that Atlus opted not to bring him back for the remake. "For those wondering, no, I won't be returning as Yosuke for the Persona 4 remake," the actor stated. "I inquired – perhaps even pleaded – but they've chosen to go in another direction."

The situation unfolds amid ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike negotiations, where video game performers continue advocating for AI protections. While Lowenthal's union status may or may not have influenced casting decisions, the actors' guild recently stated negotiations remain "frustratingly distant" from resolution with industry representatives.

Speculation about a Persona 4 remake has circulated for months, fueled by domain registrations earlier this year and consistent leaks from industry insiders. Following the commercial success of Persona 3 Reload, a refreshed version of the beloved 2008 RPG seems a logical next step for Atlus.

If Persona 3 Reload's announcement timeline serves as precedent, gamers might expect official confirmation during this summer's showcase events – perhaps mirroring its predecessor's 2023 Xbox Game Showcase reveal.

In related Persona franchise news, the mobile and PC exclusive Persona 5: The Phantom X is scheduled for launch on June 26, 2025, offering fans additional content from the acclaimed fifth installment.
