Hashino, when discussing Atlus' future plans, expressed a strong interest in developing a game set during Japan's Sengoku period. He envisions this historical setting as ideal for a new Japanese role-playing game (JRPG), potentially drawing inspiration from the Basara series.
While there are currently no concrete plans for a Metaphor: ReFantazio sequel, Hashino emphasized his commitment to completing the current project. He revealed that the game was originally conceived as the third major JRPG series for Atlus, following Persona and Shin Megami Tensei, and aims for it to become a flagship title for the company.
Despite earlier statements ruling out a direct sequel, the team is already working on their next project, which is highly unlikely to be Metaphor: ReFantazio 2. However, an anime adaptation is under consideration. Metaphor: ReFantazio has achieved significant success, boasting Atlus' most successful platform launch to date, with a peak concurrent player count exceeding 85,961. This surpasses the concurrent player counts of Persona 5 Royal (35,474) and Persona 3 Reload (45,002). The game is available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
