Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge Debuts With Ultra-Thin Design

Samsung has unveiled the Galaxy S25 Edge, its new flagship smartphone, at its May Unpacked event. While it shares many similarities with the standard Galaxy S25 released earlier this year, its sleeker, thinner design is positioned as its key advantage.

Feature by feature, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge is strikingly similar to the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra. It utilizes the same Snapdragon 8 Elite processor and boasts a comparable 200MP camera. The primary upgrade lies in the chassis, which has been refined to a slim 5.8mm thickness, down from the 8.2mm found on the Galaxy S25 Ultra. Naturally, this trimmer profile also reduces the weight, now a lightweight 163g.

The phone also incorporates the same 6.7-inch AMOLED 2X display as the Samsung Galaxy S25, even though its core specifications align more closely with the slightly larger 6.9-inch Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra.

For a device this large and this thin, durability is a critical consideration. Samsung states it has tackled this by upgrading to the new Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2, which is designed to be more robust than the Gorilla Glass Armor 2 used on the Galaxy S25 Ultra. The more pressing question might be how it handles being sat on in a pocket, rather than just surviving a drop. (Will this be enough to prevent a new "bendgate" controversy?)

Naturally, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge includes the full suite of "Mobile AI" features that first appeared on the Samsung Galaxy S24 last year and were further refined in 2025. The Snapdragon 8 Elite's architecture enables significant AI processing to be handled directly on the device, offering substantial privacy benefits, though many third-party AI applications will still depend on cloud connectivity. Samsung also offers some intelligent features, such as the ability to summarize notifications and news articles for quick scanning.

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge is available for pre-order starting today, with the 256GB model priced from $1,099 and the 512GB version at $1,219. The device comes in three color options: Titanium Silver, Titanium Jet Black, and Titanium Icy Blue.

Samsung is making a strong case for the durability of this slender phone; we can only hope their confidence is well-founded.
