SteamWorld Heist 2's publisher has retracted its earlier claim that the game would launch on Xbox Game Pass. Despite initial marketing materials, including the game's April trailer, suggesting otherwise, the PR team, Fortyseven, has confirmed the Game Pass listing was an error. The strategic shooter, a sequel to the popular 2015 title, will still release on August 8th for PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
The inclusion of the Game Pass logo in the trailer was attributed to an oversight by Fortyseven. Subsequently, all social media posts referencing a Game Pass release have been removed.
This situation echoes a similar incident with Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance, where a Game Pass listing resulted from a "template mistake."
While disappointing for Game Pass subscribers anticipating SteamWorld Heist 2, Xbox Game Pass still offers a selection of SteamWorld titles, including SteamWorld Dig and SteamWorld Dig 2, recently added to the service, along with SteamWorld Build's day-one release last year.
To compensate, Xbox Game Pass boasts a robust July lineup, featuring six confirmed day-one releases. These include Flock and Magical Delicacy (July 16th), Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn and Dungeons of Hinterberg (July 18th), Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess (July 19th), and the highly anticipated Frostpunk 2 (July 25th). Although differing in genre from SteamWorld Heist 2, these titles offer diverse gaming experiences for subscribers.
