The Marvel universe is no stranger to powerful, Hulk-like characters, and the latest addition to *Marvel Snap* is Starbrand. Here's a look at the best Starbrand decks to get you started with this new powerhouse.
Starbrand is a 3-cost, 10-power card with the following ability: “Ongoing: Your opponent has +3 Power at each other location.” Unlike Mister Fantastic, whose effect is limited to adjacent locations, Starbrand boosts the power of the location it’s not in. As an Ongoing card, decks featuring Starbrand often use cards like Zero, Sauron, and Enchantress to counteract its effect.
Starbrand is particularly vulnerable to Shang-Chi but synergizes well with cards like Surtur. However, fitting Starbrand into decks can be challenging due to the competition for the 3-cost slot with cards like Surtur or Sauron.
Starbrand fits well into two established deck types: Shuri Sauron and Surtur. While Shuri Sauron has been out of the meta, let's see if Starbrand can bring it back:
Shuri Sauron Deck:

This deck is budget-friendly, with Ares being the only Series 5 card, which you can replace with Vision. The strategy is to neutralize the negative effects of your Ongoing cards using Zero, Sauron, and Enchantress, then boost another lane with Shuri into a card like Red Skull, and finally, use Taskmaster to replicate that power in another location.
Traditionally, this deck used Ebony Maw instead of Zabu, but with Taskmaster’s cost increase, Zabu allows you to play Shuri alongside Starbrand or Ares on the final turns, providing surprise power spikes. Starbrand's drawback of boosting opponent's locations is less significant when going tall with Shuri, and Enchantress can negate it right after playing Starbrand, potentially hitting an opponent's Ongoing card.
Surtur Deck:

This deck is more expensive, featuring four Series 5 cards. Sam Wilson and Cull Obsidian work synergistically, while Surtur and Ares are key to its high-level performance. With Starbrand, you can reduce Skaar to 1 cost by playing Starbrand into two of Ares, Attuma, and Crossbones on turns 4 and 5. Zero helps mitigate the downsides of Starbrand and Attuma. The challenge is timing Starbrand's play, ideally after Surtur and alongside Zero and Skaar on the final turn.
Starbrand is a "wait and see" card. With recent meta shifts due to cards like Agamotto and Eson, it's unclear if Shuri Sauron or Surtur decks will remain competitive. The impact of nerfs on Aero and Skaar also adds uncertainty. If you have the resources, give it a few days to see how Starbrand performs in the evolving meta before deciding to invest.
