Unleash Morpeko in Pokémon GO; Dynamax and Gigantamax on the Horizon

Pokémon GO is about to get a significant upgrade, hinting at the arrival of Dynamax and Gigantamax mechanics! Developer Niantic has announced the addition of Morpeko, a Pokémon known for its form-changing abilities, sparking excitement among fans. This addition, coupled with Niantic's teasing of "big changes, big battles, and…big Pokémon," strongly suggests the introduction of Dynamax and Gigantamax, features originally seen in Pokémon Sword and Shield.

The upcoming season is expected to center around Galar Pokémon, further fueling speculation. Niantic's statement, "Morpeko will charge into Pokémon GO, changing the way you battle! Certain Pokémon—like Morpeko—will be able to change form in battle by using a Charged Attack," leaves little doubt about the imminent arrival of these powerful transformations. While specifics remain undisclosed, the "hungry" and "big" hints point towards a September launch.

The potential inclusion of Dynamax and Gigantamax raises questions about implementation. In Sword and Shield, these mechanics were tied to Power Spots. Whether a similar system will be used in Pokémon GO remains to be seen. The community anticipates the arrival of other Galar region Pokémon, such as Mimikyu and Aegislash, alongside these new mechanics. However, until official confirmation arrives, these remain exciting possibilities.

Beyond Morpeko, other updates include a limited-time opportunity to catch the 2024 Pokémon World Championships "Snorkeling Pikachu" until August 20th at 8 pm local time. This special Pikachu can be found in one-star raids or through field research tasks, and a Shiny variant awaits lucky trainers. New trainers can also participate in the Welcome Party Special Research, earning rewards through team collaborations. However, participation is restricted to trainers above level 15.
